Black History Month Assembly

Thanks to parent donations, we were able to bring Music Center on Tour’s Got Rhythm for our Black History Month assembly.

Got Rhythm! is a captivating dance and music performance based in the indigenous American art form of rhythm tap dance. Channing Cook- Holmes, tap dancer and drummer extraordinaire, presents rhythm tap in its purest form with live instrumentation. It is a contemporary look at the origins of tap dance and the masters of the art, featuring drums, bass, and keyboards. Channing, along with the ensemble, interacts with and engages the audience in rhythm making, encouraging each person to discover the tap dancer or musician inside.

Happy New Year from fourth grade! We launched 2018 by setting New Years Resolution Goals for our own classroom. Additionally, the fourth graders even went on their first fieldtrip of the year! They were very excited to learn about the history of the Romans at the Getty Villa.

Furthermore, we launched our informational writing unit this month by discussing how informational text is different from narrative. In addition, we talked about how all informational text is NOT real digging deeper into critical media literacy of the fake news movement. As January comes to an end, students have begun choosing a thesis for their own informational text writing pieces and some have even chosen topics related to the Romans. In a few weeks they will be published informational text authors! Lastly, January is the beginning of our work with fractions and then into decimals. The majority of the class has chosen to learn new strategies for problem solving so they are creatively expanding their toolkits in their fractional mathematical thinking. This is also preparation for our standardized test at the end of the year!
